Capricorn season is among us, which means an excellent time to talk about its representation in Tarot. Symbolism for Capricorn in astrology is the sea-goat, so The Devil its corresponding Tarot card makes sense. The Devil & Capricorn both have great attributes, some of which do overlap. Easily misunderstood, The Devil can seem unfavorable. Capricorn can present itself as cold or calculating; there is much more to it.

Traditionally, zodiacal constellations correlate to various major arcana cards within a tarot deck. Similarities can be seen in visual depictions of Capricorn and The Devil, making them near mirror images. A prevalent aspect is the goat head, which is often associated with the deity Baphomet, sometimes characterized as an equilibrium of opposites.

Contrary to popular belief, The Devil is not inherently negative. Some overlooked qualities include possessing a strong desire to make things happen, experiencing pleasure on a human level, and influencing others. Although there is an opportunity to veer in the wrong direction, there is also a chance to find balance. Being a card regarding restrictions can open a lot of doors for understanding moderation.

Revered as the father of the zodiac, Capricorn is an exceedingly responsible astrological sign. Its ruling planet is Saturn, which highlights limitations, making them acutely aware of life’s intrinsic boundaries. The key to grasping Cap’s nature is comprehending their restraint. Driven by a need to maintain stability, like The Devil, Capricorn strives to bring steadiness to opposing elements.

Jointly, Capricorn and The Devil form foundational components of one another. Defined by ethereal conceptions of control, The Devil simultaneously serves as an agent of change. Correspondingly, motivated by constraints, Capricorn is concurrently inspired to advance aspirations. Both figures emulate enduring stagnation while still exemplifying a need to push toward growth.
